Tempe Police Department: Criminal Intelligence Manager/Commander
A 16-Hour Supervisory-Level Workshop
SM&C Sciences has provided specialized criminal intelligence training since 1992 and adheres to the intelligence training recommendations of the National Criminal Intelligence Sharing Plan (NCISP). The NCISP contains the most comprehensive available guidance to support law enforcement agency initiatives for implementing Intelligence-Led Policing. This course has been specifically developed to meet the NCISP training objectives for criminal intelligence managers, commanders or supervisors.
Law enforcement intelligence managers, commanders and supervisors are very important to the success of an agency’s criminal intelligence function because they provide a planning, direction and oversight capability. The intelligence manager/commander should establish priorities for intelligence projects and direct the agency intelligence team in a way that ensures the most efficient intelligence capacity and effective intelligence products possible. Law enforcement intelligence can be a politically and constitutionally sensitive activity that requires an intelligence manager/commander—who may be newly appointed to an intelligence function—to understand the responsibilities and challenges associated with the law enforcement intelligence process. The primary responsibility of a criminal intelligence manager/commander is to guide the implementation of intelligence-led policing as an agency policing methodology. The intelligence manager/commander is charged with the management of an effective criminal intelligence program that produces actionable intelligence products on a consistent basis, while maintaining high standards for protection of individual rights, privacy and civil liberties.
